Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera are not only New York Yankees superstars, but also best friends who bring tremendous youth and energy to the Bombers' dugout. Drafted by the New York Yankees out of the Dominican Republic in 2001, Cano quickly ascended through the Yankees' farm system. And when the second base slot on the big-league team came up for grabs in 2005, Cano stepped up to the plate, exciting fans and teammates and the Yankees' brass with his bat, glove and speed. Now, Cano looks primed to anchor second base for years to come. Meanwhile, Cabrera was recalled from the Bombers' Triple-A affiliate Columbus in May, 2006, to replace an injured Hideki Matsui in left field.
